《Dawn Chorus》简评：

Of late I did play a wondrous visual novel, worthy of praise for its extraordinary artistic expression and deep insight into Norwegian existentialism, answering the question, 'to be or not to be.' When first I did encounter this game, I knew not its worth; yet as deeper I delved therein, soon did I perceive its taste and flavor, much like that of Dame Blanche: cold as Scandinavian winters, yet tender as a thoughtful and gentle husband upon whose shoulders his wife might rest. In this descriptive and commentary writing, I shall employ a more classical style of English, for this game doth merit the appellation of literary artwork, and for certain reasons besides. Yet, despite the challenges such a form may pose, I shall translate it into Japanese, that it may reach the eyes of more readers.
By the way, as one not native to this tongue, I would give my heartfelt thanks to one of my Japanese friends, who hath offered aid whenever I could not find fitting words, neither in mine own mind nor in the dictionary. Yet, should any error be found within this article, ye are most welcome to point it out.
近頃、我は一つの驚くべきビジュアルノベルを遊び奉り、その並外れた芸術表現とノルウェーの実存主義に対する深遠なる洞察により、称賛に値するものと心得たり。『生きるべきか、否か』といふ問いに応へる如くなりぬ。初めて此のゲームに出会ひたる時は、其の価値を知らざりしかど、深く遊ぶにしたがひ、やがて其の味わひを感得し、デーム・ブランシュの如き風味を得たり：北欧の冬の如く冷たけれども、妻が安らぎを見出す優しき夫の肩の如く優しく柔らかきなり。此の評論に於いては、より古風なる英語表現を用ゐんと欲す、何となれば此のゲームは文学的藝術作品との呼称に値するが故にして、他にも理由あればなり。また、挑戦を伴ふとも、日本語へと翻訳し、より多くの読者の目に届かせんと志すもの也。
ところで、私はこの言語の母語話者ではないため、適切な言葉が自分の頭の中にも辞書にも見つからないときには、助けをくれる日本人の友人に心から感謝を捧げたいと思います。しかし、もしこの記事に何らかの誤りが見つかれば、どうぞ遠慮なくご指摘ください。

But ere we stare into the heart thereof, let us first survey certain fundamental aspects of this game. First and foremost, 'tis a furry game imbued with homoromantic elements and bearing certain pornographic content, thereby intended solely for adults. Thou, the player, art a male tiger hailing from Finland, where thou didst grow up and receive thy early education. Thereafter, upon stepping into college as a freshman, thou didst move to Norway. This winter, thou journeyedst to the Arctic reaches of that land to join a science camp, where thou didst dwell with a company of fellow students—some familiar to thee, others strangers. As a photographer of rare skill, both in a literal and metaphorical sense, thou hadst the power to capture landscapes both of nature and of the mind, granting thee insight into the hearts of those around thee. Perchance, through such understanding, thou mayest forge bonds deeper than mere friendship.
しかし、その核心に入る前に、まずこのゲームのいくつかの基本的な側面について概観しておきましょう。まず第一に、このゲームは大人向けの内容で、ホモロマンティックな要素と、性的な描写が含まれている「ファーリー」ゲームです。プレイヤーであるあなたは、フィンランド出身の男性の虎で、そこで育ち、初等教育を受けました。その後、大学に入学するためにノルウェーに移り、この冬、科学キャンプに参加するためその北極圏に旅しました。そこでは、同じ学生仲間たちと一緒に過ごし、知り合いもいれば初対面の者もいました。あなたは、比喩的にも文字通りにも希少な才能を持つ写真家で、自然や人の心の風景を捉える力を持ち、周囲の人々の心の奥に触れる洞察を得ることができました。そのような理解を通じて、単なる友情を超える深い絆を築くことができるかもしれません。

Then shall I give the main character a name—Alexey—and thus shall all things begin thereafter.
それでは主人公に「アレクセイ」という名前を与え、すべての物語がここから始まることにしましょう。

「私たちは海上の船で、あらゆる方向に漂っています。風が容赦なく吹き、私たちを引き離します。ある瞬間はあなたと分かち合いますが、次の瞬間には私たちはほとんど他人です。真のつながりは本当に可能ですか？」

After some murmurings from Alexey’s own mind in the first-person perspective—whence it seemeth he may have lost, or may soon lose, a friend or lover of great import—we first behold an art exhibition titled Meditations on a Chance, which Alexey doth hold. He is revealed as a successful photographer, surrounded by familiar faces and a broader audience, reveling in the glory of his fame at so young an age. But then, lo! A figure doth approach him from behind—Rune, a tall and comely reindeer, an acquaintance made not long past. Yet, it seemeth that all this doth take place in some future time. Rune doth ask Alexey to linger with him for a moment, and together they retire to a room behind. They draw nearer, and a playful exchange of light affections doth ensue. But, just as the intimacy betwixt them doth deepen, our poor little Alexey is startled awake, finding himself yet upon a school journey as a first-year student. Indeed, he is still upon the bus, whereon he had fallen asleep.
アレクセイが大切な友人や恋人を失ったかもしれない、あるいは少なくともこれからそうなるだろうというメッセージを含むかもしれない一人称視点のつぶやきの後、私たちはまずアレクセイが開催する「チャンスについての瞑想」という名の美術展を見る。彼は写真家として成功し、馴染みのある顔ぶれや大勢の観客に囲まれ、若くして名声を上げた栄光を満喫していることが判明した。突然、彼の後ろに誰かが歩いてきます。これは背が高くてハンサムなトナカイ，ルーンです。これもつい最近知ったばかりの知人ですが、おい、これはすべて未来に起こっているようです。ルーンはアレクセイにしばらく一緒にいてほしいと頼み、全員が後ろの部屋に入り、近づき、基本的ないちゃいちゃをし始めます。親密さがより強くなった直後、私たちの可哀想な小さなアレクセイは目を覚まし、自分がまだ一年生として修学旅行中であることに気づきました、そして今彼は眠りにつく前にバスに乗っています。

「もうすぐ目的地に着きます。荷物をまとめてコートを着て、出発の準備をしてください。」

Alexey is bemused by this person, but then a young wolf doth speak to him—it is Mikko. Ah, Mikko! I could scarce find a name more stereotypically Finnish; Noticeable as it could be, this name is akin to those bygone American films from my father’s day, wherein so many Russian agent villains bore names like Natasha, or, ironically, Alexey—the very name of my protagonist. Mayhap this Finnish name doth signify that he is, in some wise, a reflection of some deeper connection betwixt him and myself within this game.
The slender and silent wolf seemeth to know naught of who Devon is, yet 'tis plain he hath no desire to speak well of him. And now we come unto the journey’s end, a spacious, cozy lodging, built chiefly of timber, as though crafted by Johan Sundburg himself. The biting chill without is merciless, and so Alexey doth resolve to go within at once.
アレクセイはこの人物に困惑しているが、その時、若き狼が彼に話しかけてくる―それはミッコである。ああ、ミッコ！これほどフィンランドらしい名前は他に見つけがたいだろう。その名が目を引くのは、父の時代の古きアメリカ映画を思い起こさせるからで、そこでは多くのロシア人スパイが、ナターシャや、皮肉にもアレクセイという名前を持っていた。これは、どこかで主人公であるアレクセイと私自身の間に深い繋がりを象徴しているのかもしれない。
そのスレンダーで物静かな狼は、デヴォンが誰なのかまったく知らない様子だが、彼について良く話そうという気はないことは明らかである。そして、ついに目的地に到着する。広々として居心地の良い木造の宿で、まるでヨハン・スンドバーグ自身が作り上げたかのようだ。外の寒さは容赦なく身を切るようで、アレクセイはすぐに中へ入ることを決心する。
